Weight Loss, Weight Management and Wellness Nutrition
Whether your goal is to lose, gain or maintain your weight, I will meet you where you are at; and, together we can turn your goals into reality! Weight loss can technically be achieved on an "unhealthy diet." And, my experience has been that most people seeking to lose weight know how to do this pretty well. My job as a Dietitian is to help you eat better and achieve sustained success. In order to promote health, I want to help you discover the patterns in your eating and lifestyle that need to be adjusted so you feel great, have more energy; and, ultimately decrease your health care costs.
Begin your journey today with Val to develop a comprehensive nutrition program, based on your individual needs, so you can feel great and begin to enjoy eating and food again!
Getting Started: Nutrition Assessment and Personal Nutrition Program
Initial Assessment – 90 minutes. In the initial nutrition assessment, I want to learn about you and “your story.” Health information is gathered and we discuss your current nutritional status and personal goals, as well as your current eating habits and preferences. You will leave this session with some basic meal planning and goal setting to practice...and I will go to work completing a diet analysis on your current intake and develop a plan tailored to meet your body's nutrition needs and your personal goals.
First Follow-up Session – 60 minutes (scheduled approximately 1-2 weeks after initial visit). In this session we will review your personal nutrition program, individualized based on your short and long term goals discussed in the initial session. Your packet will also include recipes, meal planning suggestions, handouts, resources, and behavioral tools tailored to support you in making necessary lifestyle changes. After these first two sessions, you will have a good feel for the level of support you will need to ensure you are able to accomplish your weight loss goals.
Ongoing Support: Follow-Up Sessions
Additional Follow-up Visits - These sessions are either 30 or 60 minutes in length (ideally scheduled every 2-4 weeks). These sessions provide an opportunity for re-evaluation of your nutrition and/or exercise care plan. We will continue to check in on your goals and objectives, while providing any or all of the following services, as needed:
Evaluation of follow-up laboratory work
Relevant nutrition education
Meal planning
Discuss and review resources to help you meet your goals (i.e. nutritional supplements, working with a therapist, books to read, etc.)
Experiential activities, such as grocery shopping tour, farmer's market field trip, in-home cooking classes, pantry makeover, and eating meals or snacks together
Fees and Insurance If you are considering nutrition services for midlife weight gain or menopausal health, you may have questions about cost and how you can pay. I do not take insurance, but I have designed my services and programs to be as affordable as possible. Please call me at 612-865-6813 or email val@enlightenUnutrition.com to discuss pricing and payment options.
Regarding insurance, I am an "out of network" provider for private insurance. I can provide a "superbill", along with appropriate documentation, for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement if there is an appropriate medical diagnosis. It is up to you to know the terms for reimbursement and speak to your insurance company prior to the first session.
group workshops
Evidence shows that individuals have greater success with reaching their weight goals and maintaining their weight when they are supported in a group environment.
Six-part workshops are available to groups of 6-10. You can get your own group of friends, co-workers, family members, etc. together and I will come to you. Additionally, I hold workshops on a regular basis, so please contact me to find out scheduling and availability.
The workshop includes enlightening topics, such as:

These topics are merely a suggestion. The workshop can be tailored to appropriately meet the needs of your group.
